Five years on workmanship.
Plain-language warranty terms. We honor them — we'd rather come back at our cost than dispute the boundary.
What's covered
Vanguard warrants all plumbing work performed by our crews — labor, materials, and incidental finish work directly attributable to the install — for five (5) years from the date of substantial completion. This includes copper and PEX supply work, drain and waste replacements, fixture installations, water heaters, and hydronic loop work we installed.
What this means in practice
If something we installed fails within five years and the failure isn't due to a covered exclusion, we'll make it right at no charge — replace the component, redo the work, and repair any incidental damage to drywall, trim, or finish caused by accessing the affected location. No deductible, no service-trip charge, no parts markup.
Manufacturer warranties
Most equipment we install carries its own manufacturer warranty: water heaters generally 6–12 years on tank, 12–15 years on tankless heat exchanger; fixtures and trim 1–10 years depending on brand; copper has no manufacturer warranty but a documented 75+ year service life. Manufacturer coverage runs concurrently with our workmanship warranty.
Exclusions
- Damage from freeze, flood, hurricane, lightning, or earthquake
- Damage from chloramine exposure beyond NC Department of Environmental Quality maximums
- Modifications to our work by another contractor or by the homeowner
- Wear-and-tear items: aerators, washers, cartridges past their stated manufacturer cycle life
- Cosmetic finish discoloration from cleaning products not approved by the manufacturer
- Sewer-line failures caused by tree-root intrusion outside our installed scope
Transferability
The workmanship warranty transfers to a new owner at no charge for the remainder of the original five-year term. The new owner should email service@vanguardplumbing.com with the deed information and the project address. We update the file and confirm coverage in writing within five business days.
How to make a claim
Call us or email us with the project address and a description. We'll schedule a visit. For active emergencies, call regardless of whether you believe it's covered — we'll sort the paperwork afterward.
Limitation
Our liability is limited to the original contract value. We are not responsible for consequential damages — spoiled food, business interruption, hotel stays — though we carry insurance that addresses most such claims separately. This warranty is governed by North Carolina law and any dispute is venued in Durham County.
